How It Works

Our clients are often amazed at how quickly they can get up and running with our Lightning Email service and just how easy the program is to use, but they are still left wondering, just how can we provide such detailed information about the response their email campaigns get.

How We Track Your Email Campaign Response
It's actually quite simple.
  • You create a campaign using Lightning Email.
  • We generate and send all the emails from our hosting servers.
  • Within each email we embed a small invisible image which links back to an image on these servers.
  • When someone opens up the email, the image is requested from our servers and has a special code in it that allows us to track who opened the email, with no identifying information of course.
  • This is then tracked as an opened email.
  • If the receipient then performs any other actions in the email, like clicking a link or forwarding the email to a friend, those links go back to our servers where we first record the action, then redirect the user to wherever the link they clicked goes.
  • Is this system perfect?  No.  It's possible receipients don't accept html emails, only text emails.  In those cases, we can't track an open unless they use one of the links in the emails.
  • There are also alot of email programs that are blocking images today to prevent spam.  If you're sending valid emails, which is all you agree to do with our service, the user will most likely want your email and choose to display images, but sometimes they won't.  So the tracking system isn't 100% perfect, but its pretty darn close.

Check back here often and we'll be explaining other key things about Lightning Email, like how easy it is to use, how you can use layouts to create rich email content presentations, and other exciting things.
